The best-kept secret of the Mascarene Islands, Rodrigues lies 650 km east of Mauritius — a tiny volcanic island of just 108 km² that feels like Mauritius did 50 years ago. Discovered by Portuguese navigators and named after Diogo Rodrigues, it remained largely untouched, and today it is an autonomous region of the Republic of Mauritius with its own distinct identity, rhythm and warmth.
Home to around 43,000 inhabitants, mostly of African and Creole descent, Rodrigues lives at a gentle pace rooted in fishing, farming and tradition. The island is wrapped in a vast turquoise lagoon — twice the size of its land mass — dotted with eighteen islets, including the famous Île aux Cocos bird sanctuary. Inland, green hills rise to Mount Limon (398 m), while the coast hides secluded beaches like Trou d'Argent and Pointe Coton.
Rodrigues enjoys a pleasant climate, generally warmer and drier than Mauritius, cooled by regular south-easterly trade winds. The best period runs from May to October, when conditions are ideal for diving, snorkelling and hiking. Sea temperatures stay warm year-round, from 22°C in winter to 28°C in summer.
Entry requirements
- Same rules as Mauritius — Rodrigues is part of the Republic of Mauritius, so no separate visa is needed.
- Visa-free — US, UK, EU and most Commonwealth nationals stay 60–90 days without a visa.
- Proof of travel — a valid passport, return ticket and confirmed accommodation are required.
- Travel insurance — valid insurance covering the entire stay is required.
Travel form & tourist fee
Complete the Mauritius All in One Travel Form before flying to obtain your QR-coded PDF (print it for arrival). As from 1 October 2025, a tourist fee of €3 per night applies to every visitor aged 12 and above staying in tourist accommodation — Rodrigues included.

Bookings & payments
A partial deposit confirms your booking, with the balance due 30–60 days before arrival. Your contract is finalised only once the provider issues a confirmation or invoice. Anyone booking for others assumes responsibility for ensuring all travellers abide by the terms.
